EVIDENCE-BASED PSYCHOTHERAPY AND THERAPEUTIC COUNSELLING FOR WOMEN ON THE NORTHERN BEACHES OF SYDNEY, AND AUSTRALIA-WIDE ONLINE.
For over 25 years, I have worked with women from all walks of life. I provide short term therapeutic counselling and coaching for specific issues, and medium to long term depth psychotherapy for longstanding, deep rooted eating problems and trauma.
My practice is located on the Northern Beaches, in Allambie Heights, Frenchs Forest and Manly, however, women come to me for therapy from all over Sydney, and Australia-wide online.
THE EMOTIONAL EATING ICEBERG
In our work together, we look beyond the surface. Your symptoms are often like the tip of an iceberg; they are the visible signs of much deeper, underlying layers that need our attention and compassion.
Emotional Eating and Food Issues
Many women first seek my help to recover from the tip of the iceberg: Some of the visible signs of distress, include: emotional eating, binge eating, disordered eating, and concerns around food, weight, and body image.
-
Emotional eating and disordered eating
-
Binge eating and bulimia
-
Yo-yo dieting, weight cycling, or obsessive tracking (points, calories, macros, fitness trackers)
-
Body image distress, body shame, fat talk and harsh self-talk
-
Weight cycling with GLP-1 medications (e.g., Mounjaro, Ozempic)
-
Black-and-white thinking about “good/bad” foods and “clean/unclean” eating (orthorexia)
Self-Worth and Feeling Not Good Enough
Beneath the struggle with food and other self-destructive or self-protective behaviours, is often a painful feeling of shame, and not feeling good enough. We work together to recover from concerns of low self-worth, build self-esteem and self-confidence, and help you reconnect with your whole self.
Family Systems
To create lasting change, we explore the foundations of your relational life. This includes navigating difficult mother/daughter and father/daughter relationships and understanding the family system you grew up in.
Healing Trauma and Attachment
At the very base of the iceberg lies our work on attachment, relational trauma, complex trauma, developmental trauma & transgenerational trauma. Healing these foundations through the therapy relationship allows for true transformation and post traumatic growth.
AN EMBODIED, SOUL-CENTRED AND TRAUMA-THERAPY APPROACH
I integrate world-class frameworks with soul-centered depth to ensure your recovery is holistic, sustainable and life-long.
Depth Psychotherapy: Listening to the Soul
In our sessions, we move beyond just eliminating symptoms. We treat your challenges with food as a gateway to your inner world. We ask: What are your symptoms calling for you to awaken to in yourself? This is about discovering the hidden wisdom and secret messages between your food challenges, your body and your life.
Evidence-Based EFT Tapping: An Embodied Pathway
To support your nervous system, I integrate Evidence Based Emotional Freedom Techniques (EBEFT), also known as Tapping. This evidence-based tool helps to shift the emotional and energetic patterns that drive disordered eating. By working directly with the body’s stress response, we can safely process trauma, reduce cravings, and calm the “food noise” that often feels overwhelming.
Dynamic Eating Psychology & Mind-Body Nutrition
This approach recognises that how and why we eat are as important as what we eat. We explore how your thoughts, feelings, and stress levels impact your metabolism, nervous system and overall health.
The 8 Keys to Recovery
As a Carolyn Costin Institute Certified Eating Disorder Coach, I integrate this hopeful, positive framework to help you bridge the gap between your “Eating Disorder Self” and your “Healthy Self.”
THE BENEFITS: HEALING THROUGH THE INTERNAL NOURISHING MOTHER
The goal of our work is to help you develop the inner resources needed for lifelong peace. One of the most transformative parts of this process is Parts Work.
Together, we work to:
- Develop an Internal Nourishing Mother: We build a compassionate, internal presence that can provide the secure base, save haven and care you may have missed in your early life.
- Nourish the Younger Parts: By tending to the inner child parts that learned to use food to combat emotional neglect and trauma, we shift the need for disordered eating patterns.
- Move Beyond Symptom Management: You will gain clinical nutrition strategies, body-centered practices, and a depth of understanding about your unique identity.
